Update from Chamber 24/04/2020

Apr 24, 2020

Friday update from Chamber

A few newbies to the Update so welcome all – the update has now completed four weeks of nightly updates. If you’d rather not be getting this, no problem, just let me know. We’ve had huge interest from many, who are not yet members of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce – you might even be one here. Joining Chamber is not scary, it’s certainly not complicated and it certainly will provide you with the kind of access to decision-markers and insight to what is really going on that only the world’s oldest English speaking Chamber can bring. And right now, during this period of such uncertainly, joining us is on us, because we believe that you need our help, without worrying about the tiny membership fee we would normally ask, if you cannot spare it. We also want you to see the strength of being part of Chamber. Just email me or call me and we can chat.

Well we made it through another week and plenty to consider over the next few days. Lockdown continues and Phase two details are out. And thank you to the hundreds who joined our first Friday Webchat, with senator Farnham, Senator Gorst, plus the Treasurer of the States, Director of Finance and Director General of Customer and Local Services. We had an hour of Q&A’s, certainly never getting through all of them. But we will get a reply to every question fired in, and we’ll publish them. We received so many questions it was difficult to collate them all and if we’d gone through them all, we’d still be on the webchat now! But we will get answers to each one.

Thank you to the panellists, who welcomed the opportunity to answer questions, both on the video chat and on the chat board as we went along, and our grateful thanks also to Grant Thornton for sponsoring our Friday Chamber Webchats. We will have another Friday Chamber Webchat, not so surprisingly, next Friday, and if you missed this one, we will have the video recording available on Monday.

Obviously more to do, and longer for us to continue to keep doing it too and Chamber will be on, talking to our members, talking to Government, and doing what we do, Interacting, Informing and Influencing.

News update

Co-funding details for Phase 2 were released at 2.55pm today.

The Government of Jersey has published further details of Phase 2 of the Co-funded Payroll Scheme (CFPS). This scheme aims to ensure that businesses, charities and self-employed people disrupted by Covid-19 can access the funds they need to protect workers and reduce redundancies.

COVID-19 strategy is maintained

The weekly COVID-19 statistics showing ‘Where are we on the curve’ now include more information about the impact of the ‘Stay Home’ instruction Islanders have been adhering to since 30th March.

It is for this reason that the Minister for Health and Social Services has extended the Order to restrict movement for another two weeks. It is now due to expire on Monday 11 May. This follows the recommendation of the Medical Officer of Health and will allow the Government time to continue to plan its exit process.

A message from Neil Pinel at Dunell's, our Chamber Lunch wine sponsors

It is quite ironic, sat here, stuck in our homes that on Saturday 9th May we will be celebrating 75 years of our Liberation!! Anyway, it got Jane and I thinking, and we have designed a special, limited edition, mixed wine box especially for Jersey's special anniversary event. We have chosen 6 wines to represent 6 of our allies which will be presented in our fabulous Dunell's branded boxes and we'll also include a Jersey bunting flag pack to help decorate your home or garden for the special day. Normally retailing for £87.10, we are offering this case at just £75 representing a great saving. FREE DELIVERY also included.

These cases are available for PRE-ORDER now from our website and will be available for delivery or collection week commencing Monday 4th May 2020.

So, here’s to you for getting through this, changing your routine, making the best of it, having slightly weird hair and hardly using an iron or ironing board.

Have an amazing weekend, stay safe, stay home, please don’t go messing this up and risking your health and everyone else’s too and stay in touch with those you know.
