Parking Permit Scheme for Eco-Vehicles Continues

Dec 17, 2019

Next year, electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will continue to benefit from parking discounts in all Government of Jersey carparks.

The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, has signed a Ministerial Decision to retain the eco-friendly parking permit scheme for another year.

The private owners of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will continue to enjoy half price parking in all Government of Jersey carparks for another 12 months, while anyone who buys a newly-registered electric vehicle will receive completely free parking for the whole of the year.

Deputy Lewis said: “This scheme has been used by more than 300 vehicles so far, and I hope that it continues to incentivise drivers to invest in electric or hybrid vehicles.

“I am preparing to bring the Sustainable Transport Policy to the States Assembly, which will encourage people to contribute to Jersey’s ambition of reducing our carbon emissions. While this scheme comes slightly before the policy’s publication, it is indicative of the direction in which we are going.”

The eco-friendly parking permit scheme was launched in 2008 to encourage drivers to purchase low carbon emitting vehicles; only vehicles with carbon emissions below 50g CO2 per kilometre travelled qualify.
