Election of Panel and Committee Members

The States Assembly met on Tuesday 19 July to elect members of Scrutiny Panels and Committees.

To begin this morning’s meeting, the Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore, announced that Deputy Kirsten Morel would act as Deputy Chief Minister.

Deputy Sam Mézec and Deputy Moz Scott were nominated for the role of President of the Scrutiny Liaison Committee (SLC). The Assembly voted Deputy Mézec as President of SLC, with 29 votes in favour. Deputy Scott received 15 votes and four States Members abstained.

Deputy Carina Alves, Deputy Mary Le Hegarat, Connétable Mike Jackson, Deputy Lyndon Farnham and Deputy Montfort Tadier were nominated as non-Ministerial Members of the Privileges and Procedures Committee. Deputy Alves and Deputy Le Hegarat were appointed, with 29 and 28 votes respectively. After Deputy Farnham and Connétable Jackson tied with 25 votes, a second vote was held and Deputy Farnham was appointed with 27 votes. The Connétable received 20 votes. Deputy Lucy Stephenson and Deputy Malcolm Ferey were nominated and appointed as Ministerial members of the Privileges and Procedures Committee. A member of SLC will also be appointed to PPC, however this decision has been deferred until a later date.

Deputy Max Andrews and Deputy Tom Coles were appointed as Elected Members of the Public Accounts Committee, joining the Chair Deputy Lyndsay Feltham.

Deputy Max Andrews and Deputy Carina Alves were appointed as Members of the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel, joining the Chair Deputy Sam Mézec.

Deputy Max Andrews and Deputy Raluca Kovacs were appointed as Members of the Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel, joining the Chair Deputy Moz Scott.

Deputy Beatriz Porée was appointed as a Member of the Children, Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny Panel, joining the Chair Deputy Catherine Curtis.

Connétable Mike Jackson, Deputy Rob Ward and Deputy Mary Le Hegarat were appointed as Members of the Environment, Housing and Infrastructure Scrutiny Panel, joining the Chair Deputy Steve Luce.

Deputy Barbara Ward, Deputy Beatriz Porée and Deputy Philip Bailhache were appointed as Members of the Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel, joining the Chair Deputy Geoff Southern.

Deputy Steve Luce, Deputy Mary Le Hegarat, Connétable Marcus Troy, Connétable Kevin Lewis, Deputy Tom Coles, Connétable Deidre Mezbourian, Deputy Andy Howell, Connétable Richard Honeycombe and Deputy Alex Curtis were appointed as Members of the Planning Committee.

Connétable Philip Le Sueur and Deputy Steve Ahier were appointed as States Commissioners of the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission.

Deputy Philip Bailhache and Deputy Barbara Ward were appointed as Members of the States of Jersey Employment Board.

Connétable David Johnson and Deputy Lyndon Farnham were nominated for the role of Member to represent the States of Jersey in the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly. The Connétable was appointed with 26 votes. Deputy Lyndon Farnham received 21 votes and two States Members abstained. Connétable Simon Crowcroft and Deputy Rob Ward were nominated for the role of Associate Member to represent the States of Jersey in the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly. Deputy Ward was appointed with 25 votes. The Connétable received 24 votes.

The States Assembly has adjourned until 9:30am on Tuesday 13 September.
