Jersey to Attend COP26 in Glasgow

Nov 02, 2021

Jersey will be attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) for the first time this year. The conference began in Glasgow this week and will run until 12 November 2021.

The Minister for External Relations & Financial Services, Senator Ian Gorst, will represent Jersey with officials from the Strategic Policy, Planning and Performance Department. Senator Gorst will be joining the conference between 2nd – 4th November, as part of the UK Delegation, and in that time will participate in discussions and events on issues including climate finance, accelerating the global transition to clean energy, and climate education.

Minister for External Relations, Senator Ian Gorst said: “Our participation in COP26 presents an important opportunity for Jersey to contribute to the international conversation on coordinated and long-term action on climate change, collaborate on effective solutions and increase understanding of the Island’s developing climate and sustainable development policies at an international level. It allows us to strengthen existing relationships and develop new ones to further opportunities for knowledge sharing and joint working on climate policy.

“All nations have a responsibility to do their part. Though Jersey is small geographically, we can demonstrate readily that we are willing to play our part in taking the action required to meet the challenges presented by the climate emergency and the need to keep global temperature increases to a maximum of 1.5 degrees.”

Senator Gorst and Jersey officials will be providing regular updates on their attendance and engagements at COP26 on social media during the summit, using the tag #JerseyCOP26.
