Jersey Celebrates Armed Forces Day

Jul 02, 2019

Jersey celebrated Armed Forces Day on Saturday, by holding a series of events to mark the valuable contribution made by Her Majesty’s Service men and women.

Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to raise public awareness of the role made by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. Secondly, it gives the Island an opportunity to Show their Support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community – from currently serving personnel to Service families and from veterans to cadets, we will also have representatives from other uniformed services present.

The Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondre commented: ““I was delighted to attend Armed Forces Day with the Minister for Home Affairs on behalf of the Government of Jersey and to recognise the invaluable contribution that the armed forces makes to the UK and to Jersey. I was also able to witness the cadet drill competition and to recognise and acknowledge the hard work and discipline of the cadets and their instructors.”

Bailiff, Sir William Bailhache said: “Across the British Isles over the weekend, towns and cities celebrated the valued contribution of their respective veterans as well as current service of men and women in the British Armed Forces. Jersey marked this commitment of our own veterans and service personnel with events in the Royal Square. We also champion the leaders of our cadet organisations, who devote their time and effort to provide structure, adventure and discipline for our young people enjoy and help them develop essential skills.”
