Country risk assessment updates

Sep 16, 2020

The Government of Jersey has made additional changes to countries’ risk assessments.

From 00:01 on Friday 18 September, the following changes will be made to countries’ risk assessments:

  • Bonaire, Saint Eustatius and Saba, Norway and Slovakia will move from green to amber.
  • Libya will move from amber to red.
  • Malta and Qatar will move from red to amber.
  • Brunei, Iceland, Malaysia, St Kitts, St Lucia, Seychelles, Singapore and Sweden will move from amber to green.

Passengers arriving from an amber country are required to undertake two PCR tests on day 0 and day 5, and isolate until they receive a negative result from their second test. Passengers arriving from a red country are require to undertake a test on arrival and isolate for 14 days.

At present, Canada is the green category of the countries risk assessment, however, the number of cases is continuing to rise. If this trend continues, it is likely that they will be re-categorised in the next few days.

Countries are risk-assessed using a range of measures. These include the most recent 14-day case notification rate published by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), recent trends in case notification, in-country testing rates, the frequency of travel between Jersey and the country of origin, and Jersey’s testing, tracing and health service capacity. Jersey then categorises jurisdictions as either green, amber or red and applies different requirements for self-isolation and testing depending on their risk.
