Minister for External Relations - London engagements

Dec 05, 2022

On Friday 2nd December 2022 the Minister for External Relations attended Romanian National Day Celebrations in London. The event, held by the Romanian Embassy, was a celebration for Great Union Day on 1 December, which marks the unification of Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina with the Romanian Kingdom in 1918.

The Minister said: “I was delighted to be invited to the celebrations hosted by the Romanian Embassy today. We enjoy very close relations with the Embassy, and I have had the pleasure of meeting Her Excellency, Ambassador Popescu, on several occasions, including at our diplomatic reception last month.

“Jersey has a significant Romanian population, who contribute to the economic, social, and cultural prosperity of our Island. It is critical we continue to strengthen relations with our colleagues in London and further afield. I hope all Romanians in Jersey and around the world have had the opportunity to enjoy the celebrations for their historic day”.

During his time in London the Minister also met with the Bahraini Ambassador, H.E. Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Alkhalifa, where they discussed ongoing cooperation between Bahrain and Jersey in trade and services, including digital and professional services, reflecting Jersey’s strong interest in the forthcoming UK-GCC trade agreement.
