The Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore, announced major new Government initiatives today as she set out her vision for Jersey beyond the Council of Ministers’100 Day Plan.
Speaking at an Institute of Directors Leaders’ Lunch, the Chief Minister announced:
• the delivery of new affordable housing at the St Saviour’s hospital site, helping Islanders get on the property ladder and providing accommodation for key workers and those with complex needs
• plans to appoint a Turnaround Team for the Health Service to address the issues identified in Professor Mascie-Taylor’s recent report
• plans to make the public service more focused, flexible and productive in order to avoid the need for additional recruitment
Deputy Moore said:
“We have made an excellent start with our 100 Day Plan, delivering support to assist Islanders with the rising cost of living, streamlining Government and engaging across the community on the key challenges we are facing.
“This work will continue, and I have today announced our intention to deliver new affordable and key worker housing at St Saviour’s hospital which will begin to address the housing crisis.
“We must improve our public services. We will appoint a turnaround team for the hospital to address the serious issues identified in Professor Mascie-Taylor’s report and ensure we deliver an improved service for Islanders.
“I am also conscious of the need for Government to be more productive. We will deploy our existing resources towards key priorities rather than continually recruiting and expanding the public service further.”
