Mar 09, 2023

• Comptroller and Auditor General, Lynn Pamment, published a report on Efficiency Savings.

• Report focusses on the effectiveness of the Efficiencies and Rebalancing Programmes

• Government Plan 2023-26 established a Value for Money (VFM) Programme

The government is grateful to the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), for the published report on Efficiency Savings. The report focusses on the previous Government’s Efficiencies and Rebalancing Programmes.

During 2020 and 2021, Covid-19 had a significant impact on Government finances and there was a short term need to prioritise a responding to the pandemic over efficiencies.

Because of the impact of Covid the efficiencies program became one of simple rebalancing of budgets. Taking money off the bottom line it removed £67.1 million from budgets.

Treasury Minister, Deputy Ian Gorst said; “We are grateful for the independent review of the C&AG and will consider her recommendations for the Value for Money programme. While we acknowledge that there is still work to be done, it is important that we shift the organisation to a culture of value for money.
