Channel Islands Pride has announced the route for this year’s Pride Parade taking place on Saturday 21 August. The CI Pride parade, kindly sponsored by law firm-led professional services business Mourant, will see islanders take to the streets of St Helier to celebrate diversity in our community.
The parade will set off from Royal Square at 2pm and travel along King Street to Charing Cross, along Castle Street and the Esplanade, cross the Esplanade Carpark, run alongside Elizabeth Marina, and pass the Freedom Tree and Radisson Blu to end at the Pride Village at Les Jardins de la Mer.
The parade will weave a rainbow through the centre of town, and take in some of the best sights in St Helier. Everyone joining in will be treated to live, en-route entertainment from a range of local artists.
Christian May, Director of Channel Islands Pride said, “We’re thrilled that Mourant has returned as a sponsor in 2021, having sponsored CI Pride in Guernsey last year.
“The parade, which is a cornerstone of the CI Pride, gets to the heart of why we celebrate: it’s an opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community to be visible, without fear, and a reminder that the first Pride was a born from protest, as a march for freedom and equality.
“I’d like to thank Mourant for their continued support, and I look forward to joining them, and all our sponsors, supporters and the Island community, in the parade on 21 August.”
Mourant Jersey Managing Partner, Daniel Birtwistle said, "Mourant is thrilled to support CI Pride for the second consecutive year by sponsoring this year's parade. Pride aligns itself with many of our own core values and it's a fantastic opportunity to bring everyone together to openly celebrate the islands' colourful and diverse community.
"As a local employer in the Channel Islands, we're committed to nurturing an inclusive environment, where our people are able to bring their whole self to work every day and feel that they belong. Team Mourant is looking forward to joining the parade in Jersey next month and supporting inclusion across our whole community."
Everyone taking part in the Parade will need to gather in the Royal Square from 12pm, and make sure they have a COVID-safe wristband. These will be available from Channel Islands Pride on the day and show the wearer has either given proof of being fully vaccinated, or that they have taken a lateral flow test with a negative result.
