The COVID-19 Vaccination Programme has continued at pace, with over 5,000 second doses administered between 28 March and 4 April and 89% of care home residents now having received their second dose.
Booking for first dose appointments have opened today for people aged between 45-49, who will be able to receive their first dose from Sunday 11 April. From Monday 12 April, 40-44 year olds can book appointments to receive their first vaccine from Wednesday 14 April.
Key figures as at 4 April:
- A total of 67,760 first and second doses have been administered
- 52% of all Islanders aged 18 years and over have received a first dose
- 86% of 80+ are fully vaccinated
- 89% of care home residents are fully vaccinated
- 85% of care home staff are fully vaccinated
- 74% of front-line healthcare workers are fully vaccinated
- 84% of clinically extremely vulnerable (high risk) have received a first dose
- 77% of clinically at risk (moderate risk) have received a first dose
This means that Jersey has now delivered 62.86 doses per 100 people in the population, compared to 55.25 in England, 55.31 in Scotland, 62.10 in Wales, and 49.84 in Northern Island.
Second doses of the vaccine continue to be delivered between 4 and 12 weeks after the date of the first dose and are by invitation only. Islanders do not need to contact the Coronavirus helpline to book a second appointment.
Head of the Vaccination Programme, Becky Sherrington, said: “Phase 1 of the vaccine rollout has allowed us to protect the most vulnerable Islanders, including the elderly, those working in healthcare settings, and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable and clinically at risk.
“By rolling out second doses of the vaccine at pace, we’re able to offer an increased level of protection from infection to more Islanders. This raises our overall population immunity, and helps keep more people safe.
“As we continue to roll out second doses, the team are working hard to vaccinate everyone within 12 weeks of their first dose, while also ensuring that the programme continues to run efficiently.”
Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf, said: “We continue to make consistently good progress with the roll-out of the vaccine, and I’m pleased that so many Islanders can enjoy the easing of restrictions, safe in the knowledge that they have the additional protection offered by a second dose.
“As we continue to roll out the vaccine, and ease restrictions, I’d urge all Islanders to continue following the public health guidance in place to help us all remain safe.”
