Opportunity to ‘Meet the Ministers’

Nov 02, 2018

Islanders will have the chance to meet members of the Council of Ministers at a series of public events, where senior politicians will explain government’s plans for their time of office.

Three ‘Meet the Ministers’ events will take place across the island in November. Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré, will host each evening, joined by various members of the Council of Ministers. The ministers will speak about their proposals for next year’s budget and the work they plan to prioritise for their four years in office. They will then open the floor to questions, and to hear islanders’ concerns.

Senator Le Fondré said: “Talking to islanders is really important to us. We’re passionate about making Jersey a great place to live and work and we want to tell people how we are achieving this. We recently announced our Common Strategic Policy; which outlines this government’s priorities for our term of office. We’re proud of what this document represents, and we want to make sure that as many people as possible know about the work we are doing for this island.

“We sent leaflets to all Jersey households to explain the main aspects of our plan, and we have also shared information about it with our social media audiences. We are now inviting islanders who would like to find out more to come along to these meetings.”

The public events will also be an opportunity to talk about the proposed Budget for 2019. Senator Le Fondré said: “The Treasury Minister recently announced her proposed Budget for 2019, so we’ll be able to talk about this too, as well as answering any questions that people may have. We’re keen to make politics accessible to everyone, and to get islanders interested in policies that affect them. I’d encourage everybody who can make it to come along to one of our events.”

All islanders are welcome to attend on:

· Tuesday, 6 November 7pm to 8.30pm at St Paul’s Centre

· Tuesday, 27 November 7pm to 8.30pm at St Clement’s Parish Hall

· Thursday, 29 November 7pm to 8.30pm at St Bernadette’s Church Hall, St Brelade (next to Communicare)

More public events will be arranged next year for islanders to hear about the Government Plan.
