ALL Jersey organisations that process (use) people’s personal information must RENEW their registration with the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC) for 2021, during the renewal window which runs from 1 January 2021 to 28 February 2021.
The above is a key requirement of the Data Protection Authority (Jersey) Law 2018 and applies to organisations of ALL shapes and sizes including landlords, childminders, sole traders, charities, commercial businesses, not-for profit organisations and associations in Jersey that process people’s personal information.*Please note that certain organisational statuses mean although registration is required, a fee will not be applied.
In order to make sure as many of your members as possible fulfil their data protection obligations and do not find themselves in breach of the Data Protection Authority (Jersey) Law 2018 our office is urging you to remind your members and clients about their data protection registration obligation.
If your professional members are not already registered and use personal information, they must register with our office as soon as possible. It is a criminal offence to use personal information without being registered with our office.
