Islanders Quiz Election Candidates Online

May 27, 2022

Vote.je hosted the first three ‘Candidate Question Time’ events this week; a series of 21 online events giving Islanders the opportunity to quiz candidates standing for election on 22 June.

The series kicked off in the Constituency of St Clement with six of the seven candidates standing for one of the four Deputy positions. Wednesday evening saw five of the six candidates standing for one of the three Deputy seats in Grouville and St Martin questioned and last night St Brelade’s Parishioners quizzed all nine candidates standing for one of the four Deputy roles.

So far, each event has seen Islanders spend two hours listening to and asking candidates questions on a wide range of Island issues, including topics such as housing, the environment, healthcare, education and the cost of living. All Deputy and Connétable candidates – including those who may be competing against the ‘None of the Candidates’ option – have been invited to join a meeting for their constituency, all of which are being streamed live online via Zoom.

Gwyn Garfield-Bennett is chairing the events and asking candidates the questions submitted by Islanders. Each event will be recorded and shared on the Vote.je YouTube channel for voters to watch back in the lead up to the election.

Candidate Question Time continues next week, beginning with candidates standing as Deputies in the Constituencies of:

This online series is in addition to the traditional in-person hustings organised by candidates, which are being filmed and shared on the Vote.je YouTube channel the day after they take place.
