Countdown to Election – Your Questions Answered

Jun 14, 2022

With Election Day, Wednesday 22 June, just over a week away, here’s all you need to know about voting – whether by post, at pre-poll, or your polling station – along with a reminder about how the ‘none of the candidates’ option works.

None of the candidates – how does it work?

This year, in constituencies where the number of candidates standing is equal to or less than the number of vacancies, voters will have the option to select ‘none of the candidates’ on their ballot paper to indicate that they want to vote against the candidate.

In this year’s election, ‘none of the candidates’ will feature on eight ballot papers for candidates standing as Connétables in the Parishes of St Ouen, St Peter, St Brelade, St John, Trinity, St Saviour, St Clement and St Martin. If this option receives more votes than the candidate standing, a by-election will be held shortly after the main election.

Pre-poll is open – when and where?

Pre-poll – which allows Islanders from any constituency to vote during the week before Election Day – is open between:

  • 8:30am to 5pm from Monday 13 June to Thursday 16 June
  • 8:30am to 4pm on Friday 17 June

Islanders who registered to vote before 12pm on 10 May, have the option to vote at pre-poll. Simply turn up to St Paul’s Centre, Dumaresq Street, St Helier with photographic identification. St Paul's Centre can also be accessed from St Paul's Gate, New Street.

Vote by post – what’s next?

Islanders who registered for postal voting should have received ballot papers in the post last week. Ballot papers must be returned in the sealed envelope to the Judicial Greffe no later than 12 noon on 22 June in order for the vote to be counted. Voters are reminded to read the instructions carefully to ensure their declaration of identity and voting slips go into the correct envelopes. Find out more on

Head of Digital and Public Engagement, Jenny O’Brien, said: “Election Day is just around the corner. We want to make sure that all Islanders are confident in where to go, when to go and what to expect when they vote, however they are choosing to do so.

“We are delighted to share our updated constituency finder, which now shows Islanders not only which constituency they can vote in, but who their candidates are, how many seats are available and which polling station they should go to if voting in-person on 22 June.

“We’d also like to remind Islanders that if they are not already, it’s not too late to use your voice to have a say in our Island’s future – simply register to vote before 12 noon tomorrow.”
