A new campaign, launched by the Government of Jersey, is urging Islanders to resist the temptation to make the most of this weekend’s good weather, and stay home to help slow the spread of coronavirus and save lives.
On Sunday 30 March Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré instructed Islanders to stay home apart from 2 hours a day, in the following limited circumstances:
- When shopping for food, medicine, and other essential necessities
- For daily exercise including walking, cycling, running, and caring for animals (including walking dogs)
- For medical needs, including providing care to a vulnerable person
Islanders can travel to exercise or to shop for essentials, but the time they spend travelling is included in the total of 2 hours they can spend outside their home each day.
While out, you should maintain 2 meters social distance from anyone outside your own household and continue to practice good hand and respiratory hygiene.
Gatherings of more than two people in public places are prohibited, except where all members of the group are from the same household. You should also not have visitors, such as friends and family, in your home.
To support people who will be staying at home in the coming weeks, the Government is partnering with local organisations to bring together advice and tips for activities to do at home. John Searson, Principal Meteorological Officer at Jersey Met, said: “The temperature is forecast to hit highs of 17 degrees on Sunday, which is unusually warm for this time of year. I understand that many Islanders may want to ‘make the most of it’ and spend time outside.
“However, warm weather is no protection from coronavirus. If you are going out of the house during your two hours, think carefully about the best time and place to go. You don’t want to endanger yourself or others by going to popular areas, where you might compromise your 2 meters social distance.”
