Please find below clarification re policy advice for people considered vulnerable to Covid-19 due to their age:
The intention when relaxing the ‘Stay Home’ instruction was that the over-65s, and those with less severe medical conditions, should benefit from the new rules alongside everyone else. However, when the updates were uploaded to the government website on Friday, this was not reflected in the amended advice.
To clarify:
People aged over-65 can also benefit from the relaxed ‘Stay Home’ instruction, designed to support all Islanders’ wellbeing. These are:
- An increase in the time allowed outside the home from 2 hours to up to 4 hours per day
- Time can be spent outside the home for any outdoor activity, not just for exercise (necessary shopping, medical needs and providing care also remain valid reasons)
- Time can be spent outdoors with members of your own household (as now) plus up to 2 people you don’t live with, as long as you keep a distance of 2 metres
However, it is still the case that anyone considered to be ‘extremely vulnerable’ is encouraged to continue to shield themselves from the risk of infection by staying at home. These Islanders will have already been contacted individually and should continue to follow the guidance given to them by their GPs and available on the government website.
