The Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré has announced further closure measures to ensure strict social distancing to limit the spread of coronavirus.
The following businesses should close to the public with immediate effect:
- Hair salons and barbers
- Nail bars
- Beauty parlours
- Tattoo and piercing studios
- Laser and cosmetic clinics delivering non-essential cosmetic treatments
In addition, any establishment which serves food on-premises should close to the public, however, businesses which offer takeaway services can continue to provide food for delivery by following new guidelines.
Establishments offering takeaway services should ensure changes are made to maintain excellent food hygiene whilst also ensuring social distancing measures are practiced.
This should include, but is not limited to:
- ensuring staff maintain a 2-metre distance where possible (further guidance is advised when 2-metres is not possible), including when delivering food
- changing menus to ensure safety and quality of staffing is not reduced
- accepting only online or contactless payment methods
- continuing compliance with standard food hygiene practice.

The extended measures are based on current advice from the Medical Officer of Health to contain and delay the spread of infection thereby flattening the curve and protecting the health service.
The Chief Minister, Senator John le Fondré said: “I am aware that some businesses in the Island have already chosen to close in light of recent measures. The impact of the closures on businesses and staff has not gone unacknowledged. However, it is crucial to recognise that some services can no longer be maintained with social distancing measures in place.
“The Council of Ministers announced initial measures to support businesses, including financial support for employees who find themselves without work. I thank those of the business community for their dedication to protecting the Island at this critical time.”
