PRESS RELEASE - Family Friendly Legislation

Jun 17, 2019

The Jersey Chamber of Commerce welcomes the difficult decision taken by the Minister of Social Security to delay the States debate on implementing new Family Friendly legislation.
President of Chamber, Jennifer Carnegie said:
“Although Chamber welcomes the opportunities such laws will bring for parents, we have consistently advised that any decisions politicians make must come from a position of being informed, following meaningful consultation with businesses. To have passed laws and then conducted a review into whether they worked in practice would have been unwise.”
Speaking as a businesswoman and as a mother, the President reiterated that Jersey Chamber wants to assist Government and businesses in this consultation process:
“Chamber is ready to work with Government, by representing our members in business, to find sensible solutions to enable Family Friendly legislation that helps families and are viable for businesses to deliver. The Economic Affairs Scrutiny Panel reaffirmed the importance of scrutiny in highlighting the concerns we represented on behalf of business. Pausing to make informed decisions is the right thing to do”
