The Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture has offered three grants from the Tourism Development Fund (TDF) to support projects which enhance Jersey’s tourism offer in line with the Jersey Destination Plan published in August 2015.
1) A grant of up to £40,000 has been agreed to assist Jersey Hockey Limited with upgrades to the new club house and an extension to the playing area. The extension to the playing area will increase the playing capacity to host visiting sides and tournaments. Upgrades to the club house will include audio visual facilities to support video review of matches and training sessions.
President of Jersey Hockey Limited, Paul Masterton explained: “Jersey Hockey is delighted and very grateful for this significant contribution from the Tourism Development Fund to our clubhouse project. Hockey is a growing and successful sport, both in Jersey and internationally, and our new facility will enable us to attract many more teams to the island for competitive matches and for tours. This is aligned with Visit Jersey’s strategy for increased sports tourism and will certainly benefit the local economy”.
2) A grant of up to £39,815 has been agreed to support the Lido (Havre des Pas) Limited (formerly the bathing pool) for improvements to its infrastructure and to increase the capacity of the venue as well as installing an exhibit which depicts the history of the iconic venue.
3) A sponsorship package of £20,000 has been agreed for the first annual Jersey Style Awards, to be held in June. The Jersey Style Awards will provide a unique opportunity for off island exposure thanks to the organisers Hartmann House Limited. The organisers will be working closely with Visit Jersey, Locate Jersey and Genuine Jersey to maximise the advertising impact.
Dr. Tessa Hartmann commented: “There is no doubt that event led marketing helps drive national and international awareness. Our objective is to showcase the best businesses across the tourism, culture, arts, retail and style arena that hail from Jersey, to a national and international audience. Our social media, PR campaign and luxury brand partners will help change the conversation about Jersey in the national media. The support from the Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture Department and the TDF will allow us to deliver these objectives in an innovative and creative manner and we are very grateful for their support.”
Senator Lyndon Farnham said:
“Tourism is vitally important to Jersey and the sector is beginning to show signs of growth again which is very encouraging. It is essential that we continue to invest in Tourism at this important time for the economy. I am pleased to be able to offer these grants from the Tourism Development Fund to three innovative projects that will add to our tourism offering and generate an economic return for the Island. I would like to thank the Tourism Development Fund advisory panel for their guidance and advice with these applications”.
