CiTD - The Principles of First Line Management - for new/aspiring managers : Wednesday 10 May

This introductory course is designed to introduce the core aspects of first line management in a practical manner supported by relevant theories. There is a continued focus on workplace issues and application of learning. The course is divided into 2 sessions so that delegates can apply their learning immediately and have access to support before learning more. This course is ideal for all new or aspiring managers, or managers who have found themselves in the role but have never had any formal training in Management.

At the end of this course the delegates with be able to:

  • understand what constitutes a project
  • make use of standard documentation in order to plan and design a project
  • use specific tools to manage communication, resources and quality throughout the project life cycle
  • apply their learning in a simulated environment

The course will provide an overview of the following:

Day 1

  • Identifying key learning priorities
  • Understanding the business environment
  • The role of the manager and management styles
  • Identifying operational priorities
  • Managing standards and productivity
  • Planning
  • Action planning and initial implementation

Day 2

  • Brand and Values
  • Identifying must haves and nice to haves
  • Building and resourcing teams
  • Objective setting and performance management
  • Delegation and empowerment
  • Making meeting count
  • Communicating with impact
  • Implementation planning

The course will be delivered in a professional informal and relaxed style; great emphasis will be placed on simulating a business environment.  Theoretical concepts will be explained and then applied as delegates work through practical case studies to ensure delegates have the opportunity to successfully apply their learning in a supportive environment.
