Proofreading errors destroy the effectiveness of documents. This course looks at practical ways of applying proofreading techniques to identify errors and facilitate constructive editing of documents. The course is suitable for anyone who would like to improve their accuracy when proofreading documents. It is presented in an informal workshop style with plenty of hands on practise at proofreading.

Entry requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements.  Delegates should, however, have a good understanding of written English.


By the end of the course, attendees will be able to identify and correct formatting, grammatical and typographical errors in written documents.

Topics covered:

  • The difference between proof reading and editing
  • Proofreading as part of your writing process
  • Spelling  rules and common errors
  • Grammar  making sure the basic rules are applied and correct
  • Proofreading  methods and tips
  • The standard mark-up  symbols used in proofreading to aid editing
  • Editing  giving tactful feedback and suggesting constructive changes
