Mindfulness

Mindfulness: a set of tools to increase stress-resilience, productivity and wellbeing.

FOR:

This 3-hour session is suitable for HR, Corporate professionals and employees who have an interest in improving wellbeing, resilience and performance in the workplace utilising Mindfulness.

Mindfulness is a widely-researched and increasingly pervasive set of techniques including western psychological science and secularised meditation practices. Mindfulness has been shown to increase resilience and to improve performance in a wide range of areas including sports, healthcare, education, as well as the workplace.

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

· Define and understand what Mindfulness is and what it is not.

· Describe some of the benefits of Mindfulness practice, including those within the workplace settings.

· interact with and absorb some of the key theoretical principles of this approach

· begin to consider how to develop personal and/or workplace mindfulness based resilience skills.

METHOD:

The course is a mixture of taught psychological knowledge, experiential exercises (eye-closed and practical metaphors with and without props) and interaction is invited and gently encouraged.

COURSE CONTENT:

INTRODUCTION TO MINDFULNESS (60 minutes)

What mindfulness is and what it is not

Working on and off automatic pilots: practical exercise

Background to areas of reach and UK trends and standards

WHAT YOU RESIST PERSISTS:

How awareness and practice of sensory experience can help to reduce stress: Group exercise

Practice of sensory awareness: Body Scan meditation practice.

The Paradox of Mindfulness: How doing and problem solving may lead to more difficulty: sensory vs. conceptual experience explained.

WORKING WITH THOUGHTS AND EMOTIONS:

Mindfulness of Thoughts: letting unhelpful thoughts go

Breath enquiry and awareness practice

Three major emotion regulation systems: Drive, Threat and Soothing systems.

SUMMARY AND PLANNING INITIAL MINDFULNESS-BASED GOALS

Delegates will consider how Mindfulness practice may be applied in personal time and the workplace.
