New supervisors or more experienced supervisors who have yet to receive training in management skills.


By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Improve job satisfaction for their staff
  • Increase their team''s performance by communicating more effectively
  • Deal confidently with day to day problems and disciplinary matters
  • Plan the induction of a new member of staff and implement on the job training and coaching
  • Delegate more effectively
  • Improve their use of time

  • Duties and responsibilities of supervisors
  • Problems and difficulties of supervision
  • Clarification of actions required to get the job done and encourage team-working

Getting the Best Out of Staff

  • The causes of frustration and dissatisfaction at work
  • What steps can supervisors take to get the best out of all their team members?

Making People Understand

  • The principles of effective communication
  • The importance of regular communication 1:1 and in teams
  • Case Study to apply the principles learnt so far

Handling Everyday Situations

  • Overview of how to conduct 1:1 discussions and the types of interviews supervisors may be responsible for
  • How to handle more difficult people or situations at work
  • Case Studies

Planning and Organising Work

  • How to identify priorities and plan the work
  • Using delegation to produce real benefits for the section
  • Practical and simple systems for making the best use of time

Summary and Action Planning

Delegates will develop action plans for implementation on their return to work
