‘Creating an education system that strengthens Jersey’s economy’
Speaker: Justin Donovan, Chief Education Officer - States of Jersey Education Dept.
Justin Donovan will address the first Chamber Lunch of 2017 with a focus on the future workforce of Jersey.
He will discuss how the Education Department are working to create a world class education system for the Island, outlining the key steps already taken and their impact so far.
Justin will then cover how education should work to prepare all young people for adulthood and the world of work, with particular focus on preparing Jersey’s students for the digital world.
He will discuss how education can ensure that young people acquire and demonstrate to employers the work-related skills, competencies and attitudes needed to support Jersey’s economy.

About our speaker:
Justin Donovan's teaching career took him to West Sussex, Ealing and Richmond. He became a senior Education Officer, responsible for raising standards, in the East End of London. Before taking up his current post in Jersey, he was Director of Education for Hertfordshire for ten years.
He has significant experience as an Ofsted Inspector, leading inspections across the UK and training and assessing UK School Inspectors. He was a member of a Ministerial Advisory Group, providing advice and policy development support to the UK government.
Justin has participated in several long-term research projects led by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research across Europe, notably in numeracy, 14-19 vocational training and skills development programmes.
