Guest Speaker: Dr Tessa Hartmann CBE
‘Jersey needs a Gen-Z strategy and Retail and Fashion Tourism is the answer!’
We are delighted to welcome December's guest speaker, Dr Tessa Hartmann, who will outline the opportunities available to Jersey if it undertakes a strategy that is focused on targeting the Gen-Z demographic via retail & event tourism.
Hartmann believes that Jersey needs to change the conversation from 'finance to fashion', to further the island’s growth and capitalise on the significant revenue streams in this sector. Investment in these areas can have promising results in generating jobs and enhancing economic diversification and would allow us to rebrand the island and be more competitive in global tourism and beyond.
About our speaker:
Having studied at Stirling University and graduating with a degree in Marketing and Business, Dr Hartmann has worked around the world including Washington DC with The Kennedy Foundation and London on a variety of blue chip brands before specialising in lifestyle, fashion and entertainment in Scotland. In 2015, she moved to Jersey in the Channel Islands where her fashion and lifestyle communications agency, Hartmann Media, opened an office to provide an expanded service to pan-European brands.
Hartmann Media was the first truly specialised fashion and lifestyle agency in Scotland and has accumulated a host of awards. Such accolades from the Institute of Public Relations Pride Awards & Public Relations Excellence Awards have earned the agency the reputation as Scotland's authority on fashion and lifestyle and a client roster that includes some of the world's most luxurious brands. With her team, Hartmann Media have worked with Ralph Lauren, Swarovski, LK Bennett, Patek Philippe, Louis Vuitton, BareMinerals, Bafta Scotland, Bvlgari, Furla, MTV Europe, Louis Vuitton, Bentley Motors UK, Mercedes-Benz, Stephen Webster and Maserati to name but a few. Dr Hartmann’s intention is to bring their vast strategic brand experience to a range of global brands from their new base in Jersey.
Dr Hartmann founded and produced the inaugural Scottish Fashion Awards in 2006, which has grown in stature and has now become one of the most high profile fashion and style event in Europe, attracting a host of luxury brands and international media from around the world. The event itself has won countless awards over the years from ‘Best Event of the Year 2015’ and ‘Grand Prix Event 2013’ at the Scottish Event Awards. The aim of the event is to provide an international platform to the fashion, design and manufacturing talent hailing from Scotland. Over the last 11 years Tessa has worked tirelessly promoting and nurturing new fashion talent from Scotland and was recognised by Glasgow Caledonian University who awarded her an Honorary Doctorate for her contribution to the Scottish Fashion Industry in 2012. In June 2016 Tessa was honoured in HM The Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours list with a CBE for her contribution to fashion and textiles.
In June 2017, Hartmann Media brought the Style Awards to Jersey and ran a very successful inaugural Awards Ceremony which championed ‘The Best of Living, Working and Visiting Jersey.’
